OLED screens, foldable screen, camera under the screen: when will the iPad be available?

OLED screens: soon on iPad Pro, a little later on MacBook

According to a new report from the specialist magazineNikkei Asia, the famous iPad Pro OLED that everyone is talking about could arrive no later than this year2024. The release date of course remains to be confirmed precisely, but we know that Apple sometimes unveils new products around March or April. A calendar which could therefore coincide with the presentation of future high-end tablets.

At the same time, Nikkei explains that it knows thatlaptops with OLED panelwill soon appear at the Apple firm. It should be the MacBook Pro, according to other rumors. Today, as a reminder, Cupertino laptops are satisfied with backlighting via mini-LED, for the most expensive models with diagonals of 14 and 16 inches.

No specific date for the foldable iPad

According to two sources with access to Apple's secret information, a foldable iPad is also still in the works – but without a precise release date this time. Difficult to know more at the moment, however we have known for some time now that the American company is also working on a flexible iPhone. The main analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman generally respond to this question.2025at the earliest, even 2026.

Recently, patents have also let us see laptops resembling MacBook Pros but with a fully touchscreen keyboard, the same goes for the trackpad. On the other hand, for the manufacturer it is only a question of protecting the intellectual property of its creations, but this does not allow it to focus on a clearer agenda for the moment.

The camera under the screen is still far away

With this, it has been rumored for several years now that Apple is working on under-display camera technology. The very recentGalaxy Z Fold 5from Samsung is already entitled to this, this solution making it possible to offer a true full-screen experience. Even better than the mixed offer of theDynamic Islandon iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15.

For the moment, despite everything, estimates regarding the deployment of this advantage on tablets remain relatively vague at Apple. It also seems that even internally, the debate has not yet been resolved.

On the side of headed mobiles, however, it's a different story. Ross Youngestimatedin fact that the iPhone 17 Pro will be the first equipped, from 2025 and above all for the TrueDepth sensor which allows biometric unlocking with Face ID functionality. From 2027, classic models would also be entitled to it.

Touch ID has already made a comeback

In addition to the camera under the screen, there are also speculations about the return of the fingerprint sensor hidden behind the panel. Many smartphone sensors, such as Oppo or Samsung, already offer this system on their devices. But Apple already has a foot in the door, since the Californian company offers, for example, Touch ID under the home button of itsFourth generation and fifth generation iPad Air.
