More Intel hardware for the September Apple keynote

  • Thunderbolt 4 technology comes to iPhone 15
  • Intel and Apple designed this socket to be able to reach 40 Gbit per second
  • The connection takes the form of a USB-C plug and will also be used for charging

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro should feature a Thunderbolt jack, via the USB-C connector which would be installed at the bottom of the devices. New stolen photos attempt to corroborate this information, echoing other rumors appearing in the specialized press for several quarters now. Apple and Intel are responsible for the design of this standard, which is already found on many Mac and iPad models.

With the most recent iPad Pro (powered by an M2 chip), the Thunderbolt 3 socket can thus offer a speed of up to 40 Gbit per second in USB 4 or up to 10 Gbit per second in USB 3.1 Gen 2 For comparison, a13-inch MacBook Airreaches the same speeds in theory. Should we see there additional clues on the technical sheet of future premium iPhones? Difficult to know, at the moment.

Various uses

If the arrival of USB-C on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will primarily allow wired charging, fourth generation Thunderbolt technology could therefore, for its part, be favored for data transfer. Not sure, however, that the general public really knows how to make the most of its speed. But for professionals, the advantage is clear and will allow, for example, platforms to be deployed very quickly on an entire fleet of mobiles at the same time.

To do this, Apple also offers a suite called Business Essentials which allows companies to also control iPads or Macs for their teams.

Not for everyone?

The only downside: when we look at the list of iPads compatible with fourth generation Thunderbolt technology, we quickly see that only premium models are eligible. Should we see this as a sign ofiPhone 15and iPhone 15 Plus USB-C only, with high speed reserved for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max? In any case, it would not be surprising, on the part of the manufacturer. Because this onetentincreasingly to better differentiate its smartphone collections.
