And seven generations for the iPad mini tablet!

  • Apple would prepare the seventh generation iPad mini
  • Its release date remains unknown
  • Folding smartphones compete with this format

Apple is reportedly preparing the release of a seventh-generation iPad mini. In any case, this is what the ShrimpApplePro account on Twitter indicates, which is not its first attempt. This informant has in fact already been seenbettingon a revisited design for the iPhone 15, with more rounded edges reminiscent of old models of pointed mobiles. A rumor since taken up by many other relatively reliable sources, even if these clues often remain to be taken with a pinch of salt.

As for the tablet, we have few details about it at the moment. However, we know that the sixth generation currently on sale is, with the “classic” iPad, the only one still available not to have an M1 or M2 chip. Instead, it is the A15 Bionic processor that awaits users, a motherboard from the same collection as that of the iPhone 13 Pro andiPhone 14.

I’m seeing at least one new iPad coming. Probably mini 7. Will reserved that for the next post.

A format soon to be outdated?

The clear advantage of the iPad mini compared to other editions of large touch screens from Apple is therefore its size. Rather compact, this allows the device to be deployed anywhere without taking up space. An ideal value proposition for economy class on planes, for example.

But a seriously competing format is slowly starting to emerge: that of folding smartphones. Take the case, for example, of the brand new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. This mobile, if we open its shutters, offers a massive diagonal of 7.6 inches for watching series or films with a large display. That's just 0.6 inches of difference with an iPad mini limited to 8.3 inches.

Release date still to be confirmed

With this, no details have yet been provided regarding the potential marketing schedule of the seventh generation iPad mini. But our source of the day mentioned the case of the tablet at the same time as that of a second generation Apple Watch Ultra and an Apple Watch Series 9, the arrival of which is however scheduled for September according to most rumors of corridor. Should we see this as a sign of a keynote announcing all three products at once? Maybe, but other analysts think no iPad will see the light of day in 2023...
