What if the Apple Pencil was compatible with the Vision Pro?

  • The Vision Pro could be compatible with the Apple Pencil
  • This would be very useful for taking notes or drawing
  • For the moment, however, Apple has not announced anything of the sort

By presenting the Apple Vision Pro on Monday, its manufacturer also gave us a glimpse of some accessories forcontrol itlike a computer in order to gain productivity: Magic Trackpad, mouse, Magic Keyboard… It has even been demonstrated that the device can pair via Bluetooth with AirPods, so as not to disturb those around you on the plane with the speakers. speakersAudio spatialintegrated, for example. But what about other connected devices from the firm to Apple? What if the Apple Pencil could also synchronize with the headset?

This is the idea that came to us this week. No patent appears to have been filed in this regard yet, butthe stylus already has all the necessary equipmentto actually communicate with the headset, wirelessly. In addition, even if Apple does not intend its virtual pencil for this purpose, it turns out that the visionOS App Store is open to third-party developers. They could therefore very well offer their own virtual reality applications, using the Pencil.

No need for an iPad anymore!

With the Vision Pro, Apple has proven to us that it is now possible to do without a laptop and monitors to work efficiently, by generating virtual screens at will. The Pencil, for its part, is now used on the screen of an iPad, allowing you to draw freehand. But the tablet still costs more than 400 euros for the most affordable version today, which, in addition to the $3,499 for the headset, risks making the bill particularly expensive.

All it takes is a little imagination for the visionOS canvas to serve as a blank sheet for the Apple Pencil,in 2D as in 3D. Let's say you launch Freeform, already compatible with Vision Pro, by deploying the app flat on a desktop in augmented reality. All you would then have to do is draw out the stylus to write on the flat surface of the furniture, saving paper at the same time. And to go further, the tool could even produce content in the air, by being manipulated like a magic wand such as what Tilt Brush offers on the HTC Vive. Judge for yourself, the result is quite striking in this presentation video, which is still seven years old:

Price and availability

Yes, yesVision Prois therefore very expensive, this is however not the case for the Apple Pencil today, accessible from 119 euros for the first generation. However, it is a safe bet that as this is starting to date, the helmet is ultimately only compatible with the most recent model, worth 30 euros more.

Attention artists or note-takers: does a stylus in virtual reality make your mouth water?
