Last February, Apple could thank Project Zero, without which the Cupertino company would not have been able to notice a major security breach. The team of security researchers working for Google reported almost seven months ago that several malicious websites were allowing viruses to be installed on the Apple brand's smartphones. The intrusion had been widely practiced for years and the technique did not allow users to notice anything.
Within 7 days, Apple was able to review the copy of its operating system and resolve the problem. A very short duration, but which inevitably weighed on the image, and put Google on a pedestal in terms of cybersecurity.
The flaw detected by Google also affects Google
Months passed, until the publication of an article byForbes, mentioning rather disturbing information for the digital giant: Google would be affected by these same computer flaws, according to“multiple sources with knowledge of the situation”.
These attacks by malicious websites have mainly affected China, as they seem to be aimed at investigating the Uyghur community within the country. According to Google, Apple's versions of iOS 10, 11 and 12 were affected. ButForbesindicates that“Google and Microsoft operating systems were targeted via the same websites that launched the iPhone hacks”. Initially, Google and the Project Zero team never mentioned Google and Windows regarding this security flaw.
The question remaining unanswered concerns whether or not Windows and Microsoft are aware of the impact of this flaw on their devices. Would they have wanted to hide the information and carry out the necessary measurements discreetly? Difficult to judge.
Affected by the flaw, Microsoft explains that it was not aware
Google's Project Zero teamwas very specific in their blog post, about the recently announced attacks on the iPhone and they did not reveal similar information to us, "declared a Microsoft spokesperson, before reassuring its customers, indicating that“Microsoft is strongly committed to investigating reported security issues and, if new information is disclosed, we will take necessary steps to protect customers.”
