Apple has already made great efforts to catch up with its applicationPlanscompared to Google Maps. But despite this, many usersd’iPhoneor iPad always prefer to use Google's service.
And it’s clear that the Mountain View firm continues to add practical features to its navigation app. Recently, for example, it announced three new features for Google Maps, which could be very practical during the summer.
Among these new features, there is the display of more practical information for those who make trips tobike. According to Google, the weather and rising fuel prices have led to a 40% increase in the number of cyclists worldwide.
To better help them, Google Maps will display more information on routes, when available.
“Google Maps has been providing cycling directions for over 12 years using AI combined with city data, trusted mapping partners, and feedback from the Google Maps community. With our new cycling route information, you'll soon be able to easily compare cycling routes and see even finer details (when that data becomes available) to prepare for the ride ahead », explains Amanda Leicht Moore, product director at Google Maps.
Specifically, in addition to elevation, cyclists will also be able to know if there is heavy automobile traffic on their routes, or if there are stairs or steep slopes. Google Maps will also be able to inform the user about the type of road.
Two other new products for summer
In addition to this functionality for cyclists, Google Maps also has aerial views, allowing you to view a monument before visiting it. Currently, around a hundred monuments are concerned.
And for outings, Google Maps has a geolocation sharing system. Essentially, instead of messaging someone when you arrive at or leave the meeting location, you can share your location with your friends. They will then be able to receive a notification when you arrive or when you leave.
“With new location sharing notifications, you can see when a loved one has arrived or left a location so you can more easily coordinate schedules and have peace of mind. Let's say you go to a concert with a group of friends. If they've already chosen to share their location with you, you can set a notification for the concert venue address so you can see when they've arrived and meet up quickly. You can also set a notification to see when they have left the room, just in case you get separated”, says Amanda Leicht Moore.
