GrayKey: $15,000 to crack any password-protected iPhone model?

The
last week,We
we were talking to you
from Cellebrite, an Israeli company specializing in
data extraction tools, which would have found a way to circumvent the
protections put in place by Apple in iOS 11 to extract data.
It would also sell its services to government agencies.

And according to an article in Forbes, an American company called
Grayshiftpromotesfrom a tool to 15,000
dollars
which would allowcrack any model
d’iPhone
password protected and running iOS 11.

More precisely, Grayshift would sell two versions of this tool called
GrayKey, one at 15,000 dollars, which offers300
attempts
to access data on a protected iPhone, and another
has30 000 dollarsallowing aname
unlimited attempts
.

These details on the number of attempts suggest that it is a
brute force attack method, which tests all combinations one by one
possible until you find the right one.

iOS has built-in protections against this type of method, such as increasing
of the delay between each unsuccessful attempt, or even a setting which allows
to automatically erase the contents of an iPhone after 10 password errors
passe.

Users do not have to worry, however, because in addition to being
expensive, this tool requires physical access to the protected machine.

It is likely that the flaw used by Cellebrite and GrayShift is the
even, and that Apple is already on the spot to unearth and correct it in
next update. The fix might also already be present
in a recent version of iOS 11, the two companies not specifying with what
version of iOS their method works.

As always, to protect against security breaches, the
The best method is to regularly update your device.
