Maps, the mapping app
Googleavailable
icino longer needs to be presented, this excellent app also includes
traditional features, many tricks hidden here and there that
we youdid
discover here.
For some time now, the app has offered amode hors
connexionallowing you to use voice guidance features
for navigation even without internet access. This modejust arrived in
France!
Concretely, it is now possible tocarry out a search
of a place, then once selected the city on the lower part of
the map, a button is displayed with the words “save”.
The following screens allow you to manage the area to download and launch
local recording.
The map thus downloaded is available locally on the machine for
maximum duration of 1 monthso as not to saturate the memory of the
smartphone. The zones saved in this way are available in the “Zone outside” menu.
connection", through which it is possible to delete or update them.
Downloaded maps can be used in several ways: it
is possible to consultcomments from the places(bar,
coffee, etc.),notes, THEschedules
opening and closing, but above all to usevoice guidance
step by step. Tested by switching the phone to airplane mode, this
workslike a classic GPS with integrated maps.
Please note that map downloads can reach
several hundred MB, pay attention to iPhone storage
so, especially if it's a 16 GB model or less.
Even if on iOS, Apple recently announced that their solution
cartography, Plans, wasthree
times more usedthan that of Google, Google Maps still seems to keep
a step aheadthanks toof
new functions implemented regularly, years old and
to the precision of its maps, without forgetting Street View to discover places
in 360 degree photos.
On the Apple side, Plans isconstantly enrichedwith additions
of
new places to explore in 3D via the Flyover functionalityand should
“soon” suggest a modeStreet View like Google Maps.
