For many years, Apple and Samsung have been the two manufacturers that sell the most smartphones each quarter. The Korean firm is, however, more regularly ahead of Apple in terms of units sold. Samsung indeed offers a large catalog of smartphones, some of which are quite low prices.
In the second quarter of this year, forthe first time in seven years, Apple and Samsung no longer share the first two positions.A third manufacturer shakes up Apple's hegemony, it is aboutHuawei. The Chinese manufacturer sold more smartphones than the Apple company during the last quarter.
IDC, a market research and analysis institute, has shared global smartphone sales figures for the second quarter of this year.342 million smartphoneswere sold during this period.
First observation and surprise from the ranking of smartphone manufacturers,Huawei has passed Applein second place.
The Chinese manufacturer sold54,2 millionsunits during the second quarter. This is a very prettyincrease of 41%compared to the same period last year. This allows it to record amarket share of 15.8%.
For comparison, Apple is in third place, with41.3 million iPhones sold. This represents a market share of12,1 %, and a slight increase of 0.7%.
Samsung still dominates this very competitive ranking, with71,5 millionsof smartphones sold, for a market share of 20.9%. Please note, however, that this is adecrease of – 10.4%compared to the same period last year.
We also notice, thevery good progress from another Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi. It sold 31.9 million smartphones, a huge increase of48,8 %compared to last year.
