Last month, the most reliable analyst in the Apple universe,Ming-Chi Kuo affirmedthat the next iPhone range in 2019 would remain similar to the current one. Namely, three models with thesame screen sizesthat this year, two OLED iPhones in 5.8 and 6.5 inches and a 6.1 inch LCD model.
Ming-Chi Kuo delivers a new report discussing changes in the 2019 iPhones, regardingradio antennas. He also stands by his predictions for screen sizes for next year.
According to analyst, Apple would migrate antenna technologyliquid crystalline polymer(LCP) to antenna technology calledMPI. Several reasons are mentioned, including thelack of LCP suppliers, which reduces the possibilities for price negotiation with the main supplier.
In addition, the analyst affirms that LCP technology is more “fragile” and difficult to manufacture, which leads to performance problems. An improvement in the efficiency ratio could potentially reduce the performance of the antenna.
However, now MPI technology, which was previously inferior to LCP technology, has progressed well and has reached the same level as the latter.
There is alsomore MPI providers, so it is easier to negotiate a lower price for Apple.
Ming-Chi Kuo therefore predicts that the next iPhones of 2019 will integrate a mix of the two technologies, namely4 MPI antennas and 2 LCP antennas. For comparison, the current generation of iPhone incorporatessix LCP antennas.
For the user, this should not change anything, as the performance would be similar between the two antenna technologies.
