4 years ago, Apple unveiled the first HomePod mini

Remember, that was four years ago. Apple took advantage ofkeynote “Hi, Speed”to unveil its first HomePod mini, a smart speaker which has many strings to its bow and in particular its fairly low price (less than 100 euros).

A reference for its size and price

This object thus included high quality sound, Siri voice control and integration options for your smart home via HomeKit. The general public also remembered its price about three times lower than the normal size HomePod.

A year later, the Cupertino company refined the design of its speaker by offering three new colors (blue, yellow and orange) in the range. It also added 18W power support and temperature and humidity sensors which were enabled via the audioOS 16.3 update.

We know the rest, the Apple brand launched second generation HomePod mini last July by replacing the space gray color with Midnight which is the same as that of the HomePod.

As a reminder, we carried out a complete test of the first HomePod mini in February 2021 and we really liked this device:

The HomePod mini is ultimately a benchmark for its size and price in the smart speaker market. And this observation goes, I think, beyond my personal impression. Ultimately, it is a very high quality device, with an impeccable finish and an extremely satisfying sound... However, with a few centimeters more (for a little more power and bass), even at 30 or 40 euros more, it would have been faultless in my opinion.
