iOS 13.5: Face ID improves for everyone who wears a mask

We already pointed this out at the beginning of the month: unlocking your iPhone can quickly become a real hassle once you hide your face. Although it is rather rare in normal times, it has nevertheless become a habit, particularly since the epidemic ofCOVID-19is raging across the planet, forcing some people to wear a mask.

But as is often the case, Apple seems to have listened to the complaints of its users and has just launched,at the same time as the new beta version of iOS 13.5 released overnight, an additional option to access the content of your mobilefaster.

The password directly

Thanks to this change, the TrueDepth biometric sensor located in the notch,on the front of models such as iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, can nowdetect when you are wearing a mask. So, rather than trying to recognize your features, itwill immediately ask you to enter your secret code.

As pointed out by@Sonikku_a2, if you’re wearing a mask, iOS 13.5 goes straight to the passcode screen if you try to unlock with Face ID (keypad not shown because iOS hides it in screen recordings)pic.twitter.com/bQCzu5u20p

The rest of the time,Face IDwill continue to operate normally. This is not the first time that the iOS publisher has chosen to develop tools following the spread of the coronavirus: the firm should in fact deploy an application to limit the spread of the disease within a few days, jointly with Google which designs the other most popular operating system; Android.
