iOS 14.5.1: slowdowns affect some users

Some iPhone owners have reported performance issues just after switching tothe iOS 14.5.1 versionreleased last week. Concretely, the people concerned mention slowdowns when using certain applications. Please note that this problem only affects a limited number of iPhones and that for other users, everything works fine.

Other updates criticized in the past

In a recently posted video, YouTuber Nick Ackerman appears to have found the source of the problem. He ran a speed test on the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and iPhone 12. The iPhone 11 was slower than the iPhone XR in terms of video rendering, or loading apps. On the contrary, the iPhone 12's performance was decent, although its multi-core score was lower than the iPhone XR's.

The 3DMark benchmarking software also carried out a comparison. Here, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 both performed worse than the iPhone XR in some areas. Note that these problems identified on the latest two smartphones from the Apple brand have also been noted on other older phones, notably the iPhone 7.

We do not know more at the moment, and the origin of these concerns remains to be determined. As always in such cases, the Apple teams are sensitive to these testimonies and try to make certain corrections as quickly as possible. It often happens that users report performance issues. To cite just one example, some people complained last December of battery problemsallegedly caused by iOS 14.2.

Thus, on Reddit, u/Y YaaasssPoodle lamented: “I got a new battery for my 7 like a month before the update. Now I have to charge my phone again at work at lunchtime.» While an iPhone 6S owner reported an 80% discharge of his battery after a half-hour call.

For your part, have you had any problems with slowdowns following the switch to version 14.5.1?
