This week, Apple rolled outiOS 14for the general public, and you probably already have the new version installed on your iPhone. One of its new features is the ability to change your default browser or email client. A very simple feature to set up,which you can find in our dedicated tutorial.
For now, only three third-party applications are compatible with this option. The arrival of this adjustment follows in particular multiple complaints and questions from the competition authorities, emphasizing the behavioranti-competitiveof Apple requiring until now to use its own apps. Which seemed to be fixed, until some people noticed that by restarting their iPhone, their personalized setting was no longer taken into account.
No fix yet
Indeed, by choosing, for example, DuckDuckGo as the default browser, following a device shutdown, URLs continue to open in Apple's competing application. On the other hand, if you change your default inbox but not for the browser, then theliensmailto: they too may not take your decision into account.
However, this technical problem does not seem to concern devices running underiOS 14.2, unveiled overnight. It is therefore very likely that a futureupdatecome and resolve the incident.
