With Neuralink, Elon Musk wants us to drive the iPhone with the brain

What if we could one day control our iPhone with our brain, without no longer needing to touch its touch screen. This is the wish of Elon Musk, the boss of Tesla and SpaceX. This is the new project presented by Neuralink, the startup financed by Elon Musk.

Neuralink has unveiled its prototype thought-based communication interface between man and machine. The first use of which would be to be able to navigate on an iPhone, but also to write and direct the cursor with the brain.

For this, Neuralink is developing tiny chips, which would be placed under the skin on the surface of the human skull. Then small wires would communicate information or commands to a box located behind the ear and called Link.

This box would be connected to the iPhone via an application which could control the smartphone. With a little practice, Neuralink claims a user could control the cursor and keyboard on the phone.

The iPhone app would receive commands from the brain, through the Link box, as if a Bluetooth keyboard were connected to the device. Such a project could be very useful for people with disabilities.

Elon Musk and Neuralink want millions of people to benefit from an augmented brain, where artificial intelligence communicates directly with the human brain.

During the Neuralink conference, Elon Musk suggested that tests had been successfully carried out on monkeys. The startup hopes to begin testing on humans by the end of 2020.

But before that Elon Musk and Neuralink will have to obtain approval in the United States from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), the organization that regulates medical devices.
