WWDC 23: the Apple Vision Pro VR headset is finally official

  • Apple revealed the Vision Pro mixed reality headset
  • FaceTime and Safari are available, as well as Disney+ and many other apps
  • The design of the helmet is particularly successful

Apple has just unveiled its first virtual reality headset during theWorldwide Developer Conference2023. The device seems much better than Meta's Quest 3, and allows you to mix VR with augmented reality. A transparency mode, quite interesting, lets the user's eyes appear to those around them when they introduce themselves. Better yet: automatically, the mount can reveal to the wearer the presence of someone in the room by fading between it and the operating system.

TheVision Pro(that's his little name) also gives pride of place totelework, because its portable format allows you to take it anywhere with you. The device will particularly appeal to nomads, who will be able to generate numerous 360-degree virtual offices, without having to invest in imposing external screens.

Out-of-the-ordinary features

Unsurprisingly, many software that we already know on Mac and oniPhoneare also compatible with the Vision Pro. This is for example the case of FaceTime, which allows you to chat with your friends by videoconference. The Safari browser is also included, as is the Siri voice assistant, which eliminates manual commands.

Apple also took advantage of WWDC to demonstrate the capabilities of its Vision Pro withTV+, its on-demand streaming service. It is thus possible to deploy a giant display like in a cinema. In addition, thanks to compatibility with third-party controllers, this headset is also intended for gamers, who will enjoy immersive games at the level of PlayStation VR. Bob Iger also took advantage of the Apple conference to present the arrival of Disney+, his own SVOD app, on the Vision Pro.
