iOS 17.2: Apple strengthens its nudity detector

Apple has always paid particular attention to the security of its users. And to protect them from unwanted content that they may receive on their iPhones, the firm launched, with the iOS 17 update, a feature called “warnings relating to sensitive content”. To summarize, this warning is displayed when the iPhone detects content received by the user that may contain nudity.

When this feature is enabled, photos and videos identified by Apple's nudity detector are blurred unless opened by the user. Currently, on iPhone, this feature is available on Messages, AirDrop, FaceTime video messages, as well as Contact Posters on the Phone app. But as our colleagues at 9to5Mac report,on version 17.2 of iOS,which is currently being tested in beta, the functionality will be extended.

Warnings will appear in other locations

According to 9to5Mac, in iOS 17.2, sensitive content warnings will also be able to apply to stickers on messages. And this is normal since on this version, the Messages application allows users to react with any emoji or any sticker. The feature will therefore ensure that the user does not see certain stickers which may be unwanted.

In addition, on iOS 17.2, Apple will also be able to display warnings in contact displays on the Contacts application. As a reminder, contact displays are a recent feature, introduced with iOS 17.

For the moment, version 17.2 of iOS is being beta tested with developers and the general public. We do not yet know when this will be available in stable version. But it is very likely that it will arrive before the end of the year.
