iOS 17: our 4 favorite new Apple Music features

  • An interactive widget lets you control music playback with Apple Music
  • Collaborative playlists are also coming, with the update to iOS 17
  • It will be possible to use SharePlay with CarPlay

Apple has prepared many changes with iOS 17, the version of its mobile operating system for iPhones. Among these, we can notably cite the case ofseveral improvements for Health, but today we are interested in Apple Music. The platform thus benefits from a new widget and additional sharing options.

In this guide, we look back at our favorite new products, with supporting images. Here we go.

1 – The interactive widget

To begin with, you should know that Apple Music is getting a brand new widget with the update to iOS 17. And this one is interactive! Here is how to add it to your home screen:

  1. perform a long press on the home screen
  2. touch the icon+which is then displayed at the top right
  3. In the search bar, typeMusique
  4. tap the Apple Music icon which then appears
  5. choose the widget you like
  6. touchAdd the widget
  7. move it wherever you want on the home screen

Apple Music's interactive widget allows you to trigger or pause the playback of a song, and it is also possible to display a playlist.

Note thatinteractive widgets are also coming to iPadOS 17, for other apps like Reminders.

2 – SharePlay in car

Thanks to the SharePlay functionality, passengers in the back of a car can also control the titles being played from the CarPlay dashboard. This should come in handy for Uber drivers when they want to provide the best possible experience to their customers.

Here, multiple participants can join the session. Just like with Apple Music's collaborative playlists, which will however arrive after September on Apple Music.

3 – More flexible transitions

With this, and even if Apple has not clearly mentioned this change, we know that its unlimited music servicewill give pride of place to new transitions between songs. We will then be entitled to a more flexible pass of arms, gradually lowering the sound of the current track. However, don't expect to see BPM synchronization available any time soon...

4 – The history of your music with Journal

Finally, note that the new Journal app is also compatible with Apple Music. This platform, as its name suggests, behaves like a virtual diary. You can list the places visited, the photos taken during the day and therefore the titles listened to via the streaming app.

Journal will, however, not be available at the launch of iOS 17. Apple has explained that it will be necessary to wait longer; We won't get it until later this year.
