If the iPhone 12 has already been talked about for a few months, it will not see the light of day before September (…or later), the next iPads are also the subject of some rumors. The latest suggests that the iPad Air planned for back to school will be equipped with a USB-C port. For years, Apple has equipped its devices with a Lightning port which presents more and more disadvantages as USB-C becomes the standard on devices.
A 10.8-inch iPad Air with USB-C?
In this logic, Apple accepts the transition and is now unveiling a few devices equipped with this type of ports. This is also the case for all iPad Pros since 2018, namely the iPad Pro 11, the iPad Pro 11, the iPad Pro 12.9 and the iPad Pro 12.9. However, no models from the other ranges are affected for the moment, which could however be the case from September with the new iPad Air 2020.
Previous information also suggests thatthis model will be entitled to a 10.8 inch screenfor a Touch ID fingerprint sensor placed under the screen. It could also be that the iPad Air is based on the chassis of the 11-inch iPad Pro unveiled in 2018, which would allow the integration of the USB-C port more easily.
If Apple seems to be gradually moving towards this new USB-C standard, this only concerns iPads for the moment. In the long term, we can hope that this will affect iPhones. However, the Apple brand has also expressed its desire to unveil completely wireless iPhones, which would avoid having to ask the question of connectivity on future models if this project becomes reality.
