Two sizes for iPad Pro OLED screens

The iPad Pro M4s are the first equipped with the technologyOLEDat the front, with diagonals of eleven or thirteen inches to choose from. These offer better contrasts than previous generations of iPad Pro. The blacks are therefore deeper, in theory, and the whites more representative of reality. A bug sometimes causes them to appear blue, however, and sometimes the grain turns out to be too visible to the naked eye. But these are details that are not always easy to detect, and which are mainly annoying when playing video or editing photos.

The screens of the iPad Pro M4 are of course equipped with technologyTrue Tone, which allows you to adapt the display colors according to your environment to reduce eye strain. An anti-reflective coating is also included and you can invest in a nano-textured glass cover if you want to improve this effect even further, like on the Pro Display XDR.

M4 chip datasheet

The M4 processor is offered on iPad Pro OLEDs undertwo shapesdifferent. The first integrates a nine-core CPU and eight gigabytes of RAM, compared to ten cores and sixteen gigabytes for the second. The latter is only available if you also opt for the versions with 1 TB or 2 TB of internal storage, otherwise you will be limited to 256 GB or 512 GB.

The M4 processor delivers top-notch results, much better than those of the M2 chip oniPad Pros released in 2022. This is also explained by the presence of no less than 120 GB per second of memory bandwidth under the hood. Hardware-accelerated ray tracing is also included, and videographers can benefit from a dedicated encoding engine for their films. All supported by a ten-core GPU integrated on the same printed circuit as the RAM or the CPU.

2024 iPad Pro prices

The price of iPad Pros depends on several criteria. The largest screen is also the most expensive, and two additional options are offered: compatibility5Gvia the eSIM format as well as the nano-textured film on the front. The price also depends on the storage capacity.

The eleven-inch iPad Pro is priced from 1,219 euros with 256 GB of internal storage, compared to 1,569 euros for the large model. Prices can reach up to more than 3,000 euros, depending on the configuration chosen, and do not change depending on the color.

Autonomy

Apple promises up toten o'clockof battery life on a single charge, with the iPad Pro M4, when browsing the web over Wi-Fi or watching videos. Of course, the numbers can vary and you might get less at home. Just know that adjusting the brightness or sound volume can already allow you to extend the endurance of the tablet, reducing them to a minimum.

A new design

The OLED iPad Pros are the thinnest ever offered by Apple. The thirteen-inch model measures barely more thanfive millimetersthick; a record, therefore. This is a real advantage for those who wish to benefit from a truly portable device, in other words the very principle of what we most often expect from a good tablet.

The 2024 iPad Pros are also quite light, which also allows you to take them anywhere with you. The manufacturer also unveiled a new space gray color, very sober and reminiscent of the matte appearance of many high-end devices of this type.

The iPad Pro M4s, however, are not at all water resistant, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra for example. But protective shells exist from third-party accessory sellers. Please note that those fitted to older iPad Pros are, as a general rule, not compatible with 2024 models.

Official accessory compatibility with iPad Pro OLED

OLED iPad Pros are compatible withApple Pencil Pro, the Apple Pencil USB-C as well as the new Magic Keyboard with function keys. Of course, users also benefit from all the features of Continuity with their iPhone, their Mac computer or even their AirPods wireless headphones.

Photography with the iPad Pro M4

The M4 iPad Pros have a twelve-megapixel wide-angle sensor on the back, but the ultra-wide-angle of the M2 iPad Pros has disappeared. Users also benefit from a LiDAR radar, useful for improving the rendering of augmented reality games. This sensor also makes it possible to improve the rendering ofPortrait modewhen images are captured at night.

The wide-angle sensor of the new iPad Pro makes it easier to capture large landscapes such as a mountain range or the horizon. The f/1.8 aperture allows maximum light to be captured, especially in the evening, and the 5x digital zoom does the job well despite the glaring absence of an optical zoom on the back. It is still possible to record 4K videos at up to sixty frames per second with the back photo sensor, which is clearly not given to all tablets today. Apple also offers ProRes filming at up to thirty frames per second, with the same definition.

As for the front camera, this one isinstalled lengthwiseand therefore allows you to use your iPad as a real laptop, especially when associated with a keyboard via the Smart Connector. Count on twelve megapixels on the front as well, for an f/2.4 aperture and with the Centered Frame functionality ideal for video calls, precisely.

Network and connectivity

The iPad Pros are therefore compatible with the5G, if you add the associated option when ordering. This costs 250 euros per tablet. Wi-Fi is, however, offered on each model, regardless of the version chosen. Of course, Apple has also integrated Bluetooth under the hood, for pairing speakers and other devices wirelessly.

On the connection side, it is USB-C which allows charging but this is still not possible via Qi power supply. Too bad, especially for a tablet at this price, which is intended for professionals looking for a certain mobility.

There is no jack on the OLED iPad Pros, and Apple has also decided to offer the tablets withoutSIM card readerand without mmWave compatibility. The latter, however, is not really of interest to French customers for the moment, because this wireless network standard is not yet sufficiently developed in France.

Our opinion: should you choose it?

The iPad Pro presents itself today as one of the best tablets on the market, all categories combined. We regret the glaring lack of basic advantages like wireless charging or waterproofing, but unique features like Face ID or Handoff make all the difference. Especially for users already equipped with a Mac oriPhoneat home.

Despite everything, given the price of these new OLED iPad Pros, it is better to wait a little before treating yourself to them on a whim. Indeed, resellers could very soon offer much more advantageous prices as a new generation approaches. We are only talking about a few months of waiting here.
