iPadOS 16: complete makeover for the Apple Books app

Apple Books, the digital book reader available on iPhone and iPad, has just been updated with the arrival of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 during theWWDC. So let's take a quick overview of the changes in question, with supporting images, in order to decide whether or not to install these new versions (beta accessible only to developers for the moment).

To begin with, it ismenu barwhich has been moved: previously installed at the top of the screen with several shortcuts (chapters, search, bookmarks and font adjustment), it is now found at the bottom. However, it is automatically hidden and you must press a new icon on the left to make it appear, complete with several additional buttons including one to lock the orientation of your device. This is also where a reading progress indicator was added.

It is not possible to hide the icon to access this menu; so exitfull screen(“distraction-free” mode) that you might be used to.

Farewell to a flagship animation

With this, Apple has also chosen to completely revisit the animation that is triggered when changing pages in a book (sliding to the left). Before, the best part wasskeuomorphismbut these design guidelines were left aside by the publisher several years ago.

It is therefore quite logical that you will no longer be entitled to what resembles a real page turning, but to a moresimple transition to theKeynote. Fans of minimalism will appreciate it, but many users already regret this choice.
