It was during the last WWDC conference, on June 6, 2022, that Apple presented the new features of its major updates for home software, iOS, iPadOS and macOS in particular. For iOS and iPadOS, these are versions 16. We discovered these during the keynotesummary here. First beta versions of iPadOS and iOS 16 are already available today. But for the final versions, we will have to wait until the fall. Only then will everyone be able to benefit from these new OS... As long as they have a compatible device! After seeingwhich iPhones are compatible with iOS 16, so now let's see which iPads support iPadOS 16.
Which iPad for iPadOS 16?
Here is finally the list of iPads supporting iPadOS 16:
- All iPads introduced in 2022 and beyond
- All iPad Pros
- iPad Air 3rd generation (2019)
- iPad Air 4th generation (2020)
- iPad Air 5th generation (2022)
- iPad 5th generation (2017)
- iPad 6th generation (2018)
- iPad 7th generation (2019)
- iPad 8th generation (2020)
- iPad 9th generation (2021)
- iPad mini 5th generation (2019)
- iPad mini 6th generation (2021)
Please note, however, that the Stage Manager functionality is only supported by iPads with an Apple silicon chip, the following models, therefore:
- iPad Air 5th generation (2022)
- iPad Pro 11″ 3rd generation (2021)
- iPad Pro 12.9″ 5th generation (2021)
Regardless, be aware that the lack of support for iPadOS 16 or iOS 16 on an older iPad or iPhone does not mean the end of all support from Apple. The Californian firm regularly offers updates for old OS. It is mainly a question of offering security patches, but it is still worth knowing: the Californian firm is not (completely) abandoning users of old smartphones or tablets.
