iPhone 12: a smaller notch and disappearance of the Lightning port?

Last month, Benjamin Geskin, also known on Twitter as @VenyaGeskin1 and source of many indiscretions about upcoming Apple products, claimed that Apple would have an iPhone 12 prototype with a 6.7-inch screen andespecially without notch.

Reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the iPhone 12 would have a new design similar to the iPhone 4, with a smaller notch.

Here Ben Geskin provides new information on the iPhone 12. According to his sources, Apple is testing several new iPhone 12 prototypes, with new sensors on the front which would be narrower, and others narrower to better integrate in the upper border of the screen.

Apple is testing a few Face ID prototypes with new optics, some are smaller in width, some are narrower to fit in the top bezel.

This suggests a 2020 iPhone that might no longer have a notch, or it might be smaller than the original notch on current models.

Ben Geskin also claims that Apple will integrate wider antennas (greater than 1 mm) for the iPhone 12, which would be necessary for 5G support. Antennas that would adopt a new material such as glass, ceramic or artificial sapphire.

Finally, still according to the same source, but this is information to be taken with a grain of salt, Apple would consider abandoning the Lightning port, to switch entirely to wireless for charging and data transfer.

Instead of the Lightning port, Apple could use wireless technology allowing charging and data transfer at a speed of 480 Mbit/s up to a distance of 3 meters, and 110 Mbit/s up to 10 meters.

Other rumors this year suggested that Apple could replace the Lightning port with a USB-C port, we will have to wait for other more reliable sources and the first leaks of factory schematics to have a clear idea of the direction taken by Apple.
