iPhone 13: Face ID disabled if you replace the screen with a non-original part?

Apple has just launchedl’iPhone 13and now that the first units have been delivered, we know more about the models in this new series. For example, recently we learned that if you break an iPhone 13 screen and replace that screen at a repair shop that hasn't had Apple's blessing, you risk losing Face ID functionality.

In any case, this is what an article published by our colleagues at 9to5Mac indicates, which relays a video from the Phone Repair Guru YouTube channel. In its video, the channel explains that it is relatively easy to replace certain components of the iPhone. But this also highlighted the problem with Face ID (facial recognition), after replacing the screen.

The user would also be notified that their iPhone does not use an original screen. Phone Repair Guru explains that this restriction could be circumvented by transferring some chips from the old screen to the new replacement screen. However, this would be too complicated for most repairers.

Another good reason to only use original parts supplied by Apple?

This story risks adding fuel to the fire, while Apple is regularly accused of not facilitating repairs of its products. However, it should be noted that the Cupertino company has already made efforts in this area.

In 2019, in the USA, Apple launched a program to support independent repairers, providing training, as well as access to official documentation and spare parts to these repairers. Thanks to this, users can have their iPhone repaired in the best possible conditions (with original parts) by independent repairers, when they do not go to approved repairers.
