During the last keynote in September, Apple presented a spectacular new feature on iPhone 14 with the arrival ofsatellite connectivity. Concretely, it becomes possible to contact the nearest emergency services thanks to a network of spatial sensors, avoiding any interference.
The effectiveness of satellite emergency calls is already demonstrated
Above all, it is a way to use your smartphone in areas without a telephone signal to contact emergencies. Free, this option will become payable after two years.
Launched last November in the United States, andduring this month of December in France, this feature has already saved one person's life. This happened on the night of Wednesday to Thursday at 2 a.m. in Alaska. While an adult man was riding a snowmobile, he activated his emergency SOS satellite function when he became stranded.
Rescuers then worked in conjunction with Apple's emergency response center, and four volunteer researchers were sent to the scene. Using GPS data provided to them, they were able to locate the man who had become trapped. He ultimately escaped unscathed and without any injuries.
We don't have any more information about it, but this story comes at the right time for Apple, which is preparing to deploy its device all over the world. This news item recalls other tools put in place by the Apple brand, whether onApple Watchor via AirTags, which have already helped save lives or find certain missing objects.
