Last week, the latest statistics from Mixpanel, showed that iOS 12 was installed on more than 75% of compatible iOS devices. But it seems these numbers were a little too optimistic.
Indeed, Apple has just updated the official figures regarding the adoption of the latest versions of iOS. According to the latter,iOS 12 is now on more than 70% of iPhones and iPadscompatible.
Mixpanel measures OS and cross-web machines hour by hour, where Apple establishes adoption by counting machines that connect to the App Store.
For comparison, iOS 11 had reached an adoption figure of 75% as of December 17. It therefore appears that the adoption of iOS 12 is progressing at more or less the same speed as iOS 11.
According to figures published by Apple,21 %of the compatible devices is still under iOS 11, and9 %of users with a compatible machine preferred to stay in the past with an earlier version of iOS.
Apple has published a second graph which shows the adoption rate, for machines released thislast 4 years, or up to the iPhone 6.
This new pie chart displays an adoption rate of72% for iOS 12, 21% for iOS 11, and 7% for an older version of iOS.
Having a 100% adoption rate is almost mission impossible, however more than 70% is already much better than the different versions of Android.
According to Google figures, Android 9 Pie, launched a month before iOS 12, is on 0.1% of compatible devices as of October 26. These poor adoption numbers reveal a complicated update problem in the Android ecosystem.
