iOS 17.1 would offer better autonomy to certain “old” iPhones

iOS 17.1 arrived a few days ago, on October 26, 2023.This latest update to Apple's operating systemwas particularly eagerly awaited by iPhone 15 Pro owners, because ofminor issues they suffered under iOS 17.0.3. But it could ultimately be that it will also delight owners of certain previous ranges. On the other hand, for others, it risks being a disappointment.

It could indeed be that you benefit frombetter battery life by updating your iPhone. Conversely, some could be victims of a (slight) decline. This was revealed by a test carried out byAppleBytesrecently the video was posted on their channelYouTubeon October 25, 2023.

Is the test reliable?

In his test,iAppleBytescompared the following iPhone models:

  • iPhone SE 2020;
  • iPhone XR ;
  • iPhone 11 ;
  • iPhone 12 ;
  • iPhone 13.

In order to carry out a reliable test, the phones were all subjected to the same conditions, as well as identical settings as the tests carried out under previous versions of iOS, namely:

  • brightness set to 25;
  • a battery health status between 91 and 98% (86% for iPhone SE 2020);
  • automatic brightness disabled.

The test was then carried out with the Geekbench 4 tool, which is a tool for analyzing the performance of devices.

Result of the races?

Here are the results of the test, compared with the scores of those carried outsous iOS 17 et iOS 17.0.3(the best score is highlighted in bold for each phone).

iPhone SE 2020:

  • iOS 17 : 3 h 24;
  • iOS 17.0.3 : 3 h 22;
  • iOS 17.1 : 3 h 41.

iPhone XR :

  • iOS 17 : 4 h 14;
  • iOS 17.0.3 : 5 h 32;
  • iOS 17.1 : 5 h 08.

iPhone 11 :

  • iOS 17 : 5 h 25;
  • iOS 17.0.3 : 5 h 37;
  • iOS 17.1 : 4 h 54.

iPhone 12 :

  • iOS 17 : 5 h 39;
  • iOS 17.0.3 : 5 h 31;
  • iOS 17.1 : 5 h 56.

iPhone 13 :

  • iOS 17 : 6 h 51;
  • iOS 17.0.3 : 7 h 7;
  • iOS 17.1 : 7 h 48.

As you can notice, the SE 2020, 12 and 13 versions of the iPhone have all gained autonomy since iOS 17.0.3, unlike the XR and 11. The latter have in fact lost a few points.

And you, have you observed any change in autonomy with iOS 17.1?
