Only the next iPhone Pro should be entitled to an A16 chip

Ming-Chi Kuo is one of the most renowned analysts when it comes to Apple. The apple brand has no secrets for him and his information turns out to be accurate most of the time. So when at the beginning of the year he announced in one of his reports that Apple had chosen to offer its new A16 chip only for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro, the information spread quickly.

But now, a few months later, Kuo is at it again with his latest report and assures that Apple has“changed its commercial strategy”and will no longer offer new generation chips in its entry-level and mid-range iPhones.

An iPhone 14 Pro really different from the classic model

According to Kuo, Apple is expected to announce four new iPhones in September. In addition to the iPhone 14 which will be at the heart of all attention, the iPhone 14 Max should make its return, instead of the iPhone mini. Apple should keep this same size variation with the iPhone 14 Pro and therefore the Pro Max.

It will be these two phones that will be entitled to the most new features. As Kuo explains in his report, the iPhone 14 and 14 Max should only be entitled to a few minor changes. The Pro and Pro Max models will have the right to a new design and therefore… toa new processor.

If Kuo's information turns out to be correct, we would therefore have an iPhone 14 and an iPhone 14 Max with an A15 chip, which is already present in the iPhone 13 and all its variations, while the Pro and Pro Max model of the The upcoming iPhone 14 will have the right to the advanced A16 chip, announced as faster, more powerful and more durable than the A15 chip.

There has already been a precedent

For the moment, it is impossible to know the performance gap between the two chips, but if this choice by Apple were to be confirmed, it would mark a clear difference between the Pro model and the classic iPhone model. As a reminder, in the history of Apple, this is not the first time that the brand has decided not to develop the chip at the heart of its phone.

The iPhone 8 was thus entitled to a chip similar to that of the iPhone 7 released a year earlier. That year, Apple presented a “One More Thing” with the arrival ofiPhone X and Face ID.
