iPhone 15: a major subcontractor fails to produce the screen

  • BOE Electronics, a subcontractor used to designing iPhone screens, is having problems
  • Deliveries of panels for iPhone 15 would therefore be made without BOE
  • Several improvements await the screens of future iPhones

BOE Electronics, a regular in the mass design of panels for iPhone, would have encountered a serious problem in Asia. Indeed, while Apple is very particular about the choice of its employees, the subcontractor would not have succeeded in achieving the objectives set with Apple. Therefore, all orders for tablet and smartphone screens that were to be fulfilled to Cupertino would in fact have been withdrawn from BOE.

It is still difficult, at present, to measure the potentially devastating effects of this news, but Apple has until now been one of BOE's main customers. And this to the tune of severaltens of millions of viewsleft the factory each quarter, i.e. a significant shortfall carried over to sales estimates for future iPhones. These should, unsurprisingly, be four in number: two 6.1-inch editions and two others of 6.7 inches. These diagonals should be considered with caution, since the manufacturer could enlarge them slightly thanks to thinner borders between them and the chassis.

Technical problems

According to the information we have been able to consult and which seems to come straight from eastern production lines, BOE Electronics has in fact faced significant slowdowns due to technical problems. The nature of these incidents is however not specified in further detail, but we know thatApple wants to be very demanding when it comes to assembly processes.

The fall of BOE Electronics should greatly benefit its two major competitors in the iPhone screen sector:Samsung et LG Display. Neither of them, however, have confirmed this hypothesis for the moment, but you should indeed find Korean touchscreen in your hands by the end of the year.

Anything new for the iPhone 15 screen?

Beyond the size which would therefore be increased, the iPhone 15s are also expected with abetter brightnesssupposed, perhaps reaching up to two and a half thousand nits at most. This will then make it possible to better support the use of devices in direct sunlight. As a bonus, we also expect the front to be more resistant to shocks and scratches thanks to a new generation of Gorilla Glass, the Victus 2. The American company has not, however, confirmed that Apple will be back customer in 2023, but collaboration between the two companies is usual.

The iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plusshould, however, still not be entitled to the ProMotion refresh rate of one hundred and twenty frames per second, which would still be limited to Pro models this year. However, theDynamic Islandwould make its arrival on the basic collections.
