iPhone 17 & 18: the Pro Max more powerful than the Pro?

17 years ago, when Steve Jobs proudly presented the very first iPhone, no one would have imagined that we would come to this. The first had 4 GB of storage for 128 MB of RAM memory. At the time, these numbers were sufficient, but today, as our smartphones have become true pocket computers, the situation has changed.

iPhone memory, whether RAM or storage memory, has continued to evolve over time, with a jump before recently. Indeed, the latest iPhone 16s are entitled to more RAM this year than their predecessors, and according to rumors, this is not about to stop!

8 GB of RAM, the new standard for Apple Intelligence

With the arrival of Apple Intelligence features on the latest iPhone models, Apple had to review its copy. No more 6 GB of RAM in the standard versions! Now place for8 GB minimum for all models, yincluding the SE4 which should be released in 2025. A quantity necessary to run all these new resource-intensive features.

The Apple firm does not intend to stop there: according to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst renowned for his often correct predictions,l’iPhone 17 Pro Maxcould well upgrade to 12 GB of RAMfrom next year, but not the iPhone 17 Pro. A first for Apple, which has never differentiated its Pro models on this criterion.

The iPhone 18 Pro would increase to 12 GB thanks to new technology

While the rumor that only the iPhone 17 Pro Max would have 12 GB of RAM was shared by Ming-Chi Kuo last August, a chip expert indirectly supports this today!

According tosessay,at least one iPhone 18 model reportedly adopts new, denser chip packaging method, allowing 12 GB of RAM to be integrated. This technology, called WMCM, would be an evolution of the InFo method used until now by TSMC, Apple's chip manufacturer.

We imagine that it would be the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which would corroborate with the information from Ming-Chi Kuo. Apple indeed seems to be adopting a new differentiation strategy for its future iPhone Pros, by offering more RAM on the Pro Max.

As a reminder, the first iPhone of the namewas satisfied with 128 MB of RAM, its descendants could therefore take on board almost 100 times more within a few years. A spectacular development!
