Here's why there's no Instagram app for the iPad

Instagram is one of the mobile applications that were downloaded the most on mobile (iOS and Android) during the 2010s. However, Instagram only offers an experience optimized for the iPhone, but not for the iPad.

Of course, if you use the Apple tablet, you can open Instagram on the web version, and some sites offer tips for downloading the iPhone version of Instagram (but with an average experience) on an iPad.

But why isn't Instagram developing an iPad version of its social network? Recently, Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, answered this question.

According to the site 9to5Mac, Mosseri recently spoke out via the social network's Stories feature. And in addition to mentioning the fact that some users don't see any advertising, he also explained why there is no iPad version.

Instagram is not against it, but an iPad application would not currently be a priority for the social network

In essence, Instagram would not be against the idea of developing a version of the app optimized for Apple tablets. However, this would not be a priority. With the resources available to the social network, it would have a lot to develop and for the moment, the development of an iPad application would not have been“still been the best thing to do.”

Of course, there may be other reasons that prevent the development of an Instagram app for the iPad. Moreover, it might be hard to believe that the social network would not have the means to develop this iPad version, given the money that it generates thanks to advertising. According to an article recently published by Bloomberg, Instagram generated $20 billion in 2019, which is more than the $15 billion generated by YouTube during the same period.

But it is also true that Instagram may have other priorities, such as countering the offers of competing platforms like Snapchat, Byte orTikTok, sometimes taking inspiration from the functionalities of these platforms. Currently, Instagram is also having difficulty establishing itself in long video formats. Its platformIGTV, which was to compete with YouTube, is struggling to take off. However, IGTV is finally considering paying creators, which could change the situation.
