Apple very rarely discusses its future products. But fortunately, there are a few well-informed sources who regularly give us new information on the firm's projects. And among these sources is the analyst Ming Chi Kuo. In a recent publication on Medium, the latter gives his new predictions concerning the future MacBook or iPad with a folding screen.
Indeed, although Apple has not yet shown any interest in foldable screens, rumors suggest that the firm is already looking into this technology. And while some sources speak of a future folding iPhone, others speak of a device with a very large screen that could be considered an iPad or a MacBook. In his post, Kuo indicates that Apple could use a 20.25-inch foldable screen or an alternative with an 18.8-inch diagonal.
In the first case, the folded device would have a format similar to that of a 14 or 15 inch MacBook. And in the second, it would have the format of a 13 or 14 inch laptop. Regarding the timing, Ming Chi Kuo revised his forecast. Previously, he thought that production of this future Apple product would begin in 2017. But now,the analyst believes that production of the foldable displays could begin in the last quarter of 2025, while assembly could begin in the first half of 2026.
An exceptional product that may be very expensive
Apple's future foldable screen MacBook or iPad would use the future M5 chip and this screen could almost eliminate one of the biggest drawbacks of this type of product: fold marks. “Apple aims to make the panel as wrinkle-free as possible, which requires high design specifications for the panel and hinge,”indicates Ming Chi Kuo. This also warnsthat the product is likely to be expensive, because of the foldable screen. The future MacBook with a foldable screen could even have a price comparable tocurrent price of Vision Pro.
However, Apple expected this future foldable screen product to sell better. And as a result, for the year 2026, the firm plans to ship more than a million units.
