The iPhone used to check train tickets in the US

Clearly, the iPhone is still expanding its field of application and
could make life easier for travelers, like controllers, for
train travel.

Indeed,Amtrak, the public railway company
American, is currently carrying out tests to equip itscontrollers
modified iPhones so that they can scan banknotes
passengers
:

In fact, since November, the companyAmtrakequipped
some of its iPhone controllers that feature abattery
additional and barcode scanner
.

So, the controller only has to scan the ticket. But this doesn't stop
not just checking tickets.

The train driver could, for example, indicate to a controller if a
disabled person plans to stop at the next stop in order to prepare for access to the
door and thus facilitate the exit of the traveler by the elevator reserved for
wheelchairs.

Another advantage of this system is that its users will no longer have to
must print the ticket but cankeep under its
digital form in the iPhone.

Theticket thus dematerialized will be controlled from iPhone to
iPhone
.

For the moment, this experiment, which cost 7.5 million dollars (5.5
for development and 2 million for hardware), works on
Boston – Portland and San Jose – Sacramento lines but it should quickly
extend since1700 controllersshould thus be
equipped by the end of summer.

Closer to us, we note that SNCF controllers have long had
PDA using the Pocket PC mobile system (Microsoft, predecessor of
Windows Phone)
and that the dematerialized ticket is already available via

the SNCF Travel application
on certain lines in France.
