Kuo: Apple is preparing an 8-inch folding iPhone

TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has struck again. He who is one of the best informed men around the Apple brand, he does not hesitate to deliver the latter's commercial strategy to his investors in his numerous reports, an exercise in which his precision and his analysis put on a pedestal.

So when Kuo announcesthat Apple will produce a folding iPhone for 2023, enthusiasts of the Cupertino company are panicking. Internally torn between those who have been waiting for the arrival of this new technology within the Apple ecosystem for too long already, and those who do not want to see this monstrosity arrive on their phones. However, it seems that the sense of history makes the release of a folding product at Apple inevitable.

Kuo remains very careful

As far as Kuo is concerned, his analysis is most reserved. If he does indeed announce thatAppleworks on a 7.5 or 8 inch folding phone, he also explains that the development of such a product poses a lot of problems for the Cupertino company, in particular on the implementation of large-scale production, the latter would not encounter not the reliability desired by Apple.

Kuo also explains that this project has been in progress for many months at Apple, other rumors have already echoed this phone in the past. Today the folding phone exists under Android, notably with Samsung's models, the fold and the Z Flip, which have had more than moderate success. Because this new technology is expensive, in a smartphone market which has seen its prices stagnate for several years, the arrival of a new functionality, as important as this one, could shake up the order of prices for folding phones and ask customers to spend a few hundred euros more to benefit from this new functionality.

A step that is complicated to get accepted by the general public, as the price criterion still interferes in the choice of smartphone model. Apple will therefore have to succeed in making this technology attractive to its public to achieve the desired success.
