The Apple Card, a worrying success

148 days after its announcement by Tim Cook, the Apple Card was available to any American who requested it. No income obligation, no administrative request, the Apple bank card is intended to be simple. Launched at the same time as Apple News + and Apple TV +, it was able to attract a large audience from its presentation, by setting up a cash back system which makes it possible to recover a small part of the money spent by the owner of the map.

An idea that is over 15 years old

The idea is nothing new at Apple, already at the end of the 2000s, a bank card, used to purchase Apple products only, was made available to customers of the Apple brand. With its disappearance, the public was waiting for a new bank card, made in Apple, as Steve Jobs also hoped. And it was finally in 2019 that the long-awaited product arrived in the hands of thousands of Americans.

Thanks to the help of Goldman Sachs, one of the largest American banks, Apple was able to launch its credit card, which was announced by financial experts as “a godsend” for the apple brand.

If Apple has not confirmed any figures on the launch of the Apple Card, external evaluations are rather encouraging and Goldman Sachs assured its shareholders that it was the “best bank card launch in history” , quite simply.

A success that displeases some

If the success of the Apple Card is no longer in doubt, it does not satisfy everyone. And within the brand's audience, some have complained about the extremely rapid wear and tear of the card. Finally Apple proposed several solutions to maintain the titanium on the card and reduce wear.

Another criticism of Apple's card is that it is discriminatory. Many customers have complained of discrimination based on gender in whether or not they accept credit. These decisions are in reality not taken by Apple but by Goldman Sachs. The latter denied the facts, and although an investigation was opened last year, no report has yet been made public.
