With Ridley Scott behind the camera and Joaquim Phoenix in one of the leading roles, the film “Napoleon” is already shaping up to be one of the big titles of this year. After months of filming retracing the life of the Corsican emperor, the feature film should be released in theaters on November 22.
Apple TV+, which has broadcast rights to the work, should offer it in its catalog a few weeks after its release in the cinema. A special timeline that will also be used by Apple toKillers of the Flower Moon, the new film from the legendary MartinScorsesewhose release is scheduled for October 6.
This connection between cinemas and the streaming platform should nevertheless pose problems in France. In France the law requires that certain actors (such as physical sales) have priority over films once they have been released in theaters. The film could therefore do without the big screens and end up directly on Apple TV+.
“Napoleon” the new challenge from Ridley Scott
With “Napoleon”, Ridley Scott takes on a major new challenge. 20 years after making “Gladiator”, already with Joaquim Phoenix, the director will have to redouble his genius in the direction. Ridley Scott has a special history with Apple. In 1984, the director had just finished Alien and worked onApple's famous ad against IBMserving as a promotional launch for the Macintosh.
This part of Apple's history was imagined by Ridley Scott and the director has maintained close ties with the Apple brand ever since. With the release of “Napoleon”, Scott should offer a story retracing the life of the emperor, his rise to power, but also his numerous battles from Austerlitz to Waterloo.
The central theme of the film should, for its part, focus on the very special relationship between the emperor and his wife Joséphine. In the film this role will be played by Vanessa Kirby.
