No, Apple does not impose a minimum resale price for AirPods on Leboncoin

Journalist Romain Heuillard seems to have put his finger on something interesting. When he wanted to part with his pair of first generation AirPods, it was quite natural that he went to the siteLeboncoinin order to publish an ad to sell their headphones. But surprise for the young manwho saw his ad being refused by the platform. This is what he says in a post [X] published yesterday Monday November 27.

Leboncoininvokeinitially a curious reason for this refusal, claiming that these are counterfeit AirPods, based on price alone. But after digging a little to really understand why his ad was not published, Romain received a response from the platform which generatedmultiple reactions on the web.

Leboncoin accuses Apple

As you can see in the screenshot of the email Romain received,Leboncoinindicates black on white (white on black here) that “the Apple company has implemented very strict resale price scales". After this response, Romain Heuillard asked them to communicate the price list to him, in order to adjust the price of his AirPods and that his announcement was on point. However, he was once again refused, this time under the pretext that this information was confidential.

What does the resale platform say?

Romain's publication caused a lot of noise yesterday, unleashing crowds against the Apple firm. Some even accuse him of using practices “shameful". For others,Leboncoinwould have simply liedsince it practices this method for all valuable devices, regardless of the brand. This occursas part of its anti-fraud policywhich aims to prevent scammers who try to trap users by luring them in with unbeatable prices.

Numerama contacted Leboncoinabout this. The platform's response is clear, the customer service message seen in the screenshot is not correct. Certainly, a price that is too low can constitute an alert for the posting of a counterfeit online, butthere is no minimum price agreement between Leboncoin and Apple.

For the moment, Apple has not reacted.
