The giant
Finnish Nokia has carried out a significant restructuring of its activities in
during his last two years. After selling its mobile division to
Microsoft in April 2014, the brand signed a merger agreement with the French
Alcatel-Lucent in April 2015. The company's last major operation
is the sale of its mapping service, Here. And it seems that the
Finnish finally found a buyer!
According to a
Bloomberg agency report, published Tuesday July 21, Nokia would be on the
point of selling its Here mapping service to three German giants of the
automotive sector:Mercedes-Benz (Daimler), Audi (groupe
Volkswagen) and BMW. According to Bloomberg, which cites sources close to the
file, “an agreement could be found as early as next week and
announced around July 31...". The amount of the operation would be4
billion dollars, more than the 3 billion dollars
previously offered by Uber (reported by The New York Times).
Valued at 2 billion euros in Nokia's accounts,Here is
born from the acquisition of the American company Navteq in 2008 for 8.1 billion
dollars. The mapping service is today one of the most
important in the market alongside Google Maps.
In the automotive sector where Here and Google Maps are engaged in a battle
relentless to conquer the market, Nokia claims to be at the origin of
four-fifths of maps integrated into car GPS
sold in North America and Europe.
The acquisition of Nokia Here by BMW, Audi and Mercedes should therefore strengthen the
weight of the service in the sector. And all the more so since in his approach to
integrate Google Maps into vehicle on-board screens, Google wants to have a
full access to the data that will be collected by its mapping service.
Which is naturally not to the taste of car manufacturers!
At this stage, Nokia has not yet made a comment.
