Tip: the map to find the best mobile operator and the best 5G in your area

Have you ever wondered which phone carrier has the best 5G coverage in your area? Well, ARCEP might well answer your question. Indeed, the telecoms police regularly updates a large interactive map of France with5G coverage for each operator. A similar map also existsfor 4G.

To access this card, nothing could be simpler: just go to the websiteMy mobile network.ARCEP explains that this portal“brings together all the information on the speeds offered by operators, for all fixed internet technologies, in mainland France and overseas.”

Know your 5G coverage

To fully understand how this interactive map works, let's take a concrete example. If you want to know the quality of 5G coverage in a city like Avignon (or any municipality in France) you just have to enter the name of the municipality in the search bar.

On this map we can see the quality of the 5G connection in the city. At the bottom left, the graph tells us that the 4 operators all have very good results in the city. However, Orange has a slight lead over the other three operators. Free and SFR are a notch below.

The blue and red dots show the test areas taken as reference by ARCEP in order to calculate this data. In blue, the places where the test was carried out, in red where it failed.

How does it work?

Concretely, the interface allows you in a few clicks to find out the capacities and network coverage of all the telephone operators in your region. Before this data was centralized on a single website, you had to manually check on the operators' website what coverage was available for your home.

Thanks to this site, this is no longer the case. This card was created to save you time. Since its release in 2021, it has been updated numerous times, making navigation easier or even making the data more readable.

Know your connection to home

In addition to providing you with a list of operators present in the area and thequality of their 5G coverage, another interactive mapof ARCEP provides access to data on thequality of internet coverage at home. Today 80% of homes are connected to very high speed (more than 30 Mbit/s). Only 0.2% of the territory is not covered by Very High Speed or Broadband (between 8 and 30 Mbit/s).

A third and final map, available onthe same site, allows you to monitor the deployment of fiber in your municipality.

So who offers the best 5G in your home?
