Last Tuesday Apple presented four new iPhones. If the variations of its iPhone 14 were not surprising, one model is missing. The iPhone “mini” will not have been renewed, after two years of existence. Launched in 2020 with the iPhone 12, the “mini” model was an experiment by Apple which already offered a “large format” model with its Pro Max.
But 24 months after the launch, Apple was not impressed by the sales results of the iPhone “mini”. Apple's small phones were thanked and last week the Cupertino company presented the “iPhone 14 Plus”. A phone that takes the idea of the iPhone XS Max at its time.
A large 6.7″ screen without having ultra-advanced technologies like the “Pro Max” models. But according to Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst for TF Securities and Apple expert, Apple has just made a serious mistake. In fact, he assures that pre-orders for the iPhone 14 Plus are not good.
iPhone 14 Plus: very discreet pre-orders?
According to his information, the “large format” phone would do even worse than the iPhone mini last year at the same period. A result that must however be qualified. As Kuo points out in his report, the iPhone 14 Plus suffers, like the iPhone 14, from a glaring lack of development.
Unlike the iPhone 13, which was very close to their “Pro” evolutions, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have nothing to do with the “Pro” and “Pro Max” models. The processor is different, the screen too and above all, the “dynamic island” is exclusive to the high-end models.
A strong difference between the two versions of the iPhone 14 which could tilt sales towards the “Pro” models. An analysis made by Kuo who notes that sales of the “classic” iPhone 14 are, like the iPhone 14 Plus, quite bad.
An iPhone 14 not so attractive?
Another parameter to take into account when analyzing iPhone sales this year: the price. Apple phones are much more expensive this year compared to last year. If the difference is non-existent in Uncle Sam's country, it is notable in Europe, and particularly in France.
In France, an iPhone 14 costs €1,029 in its 128 GB storage version, while the “Plus” model costs €1,169. One more disadvantage compared to the “mini” which was always the cheapest product of its generation.
