Apple TV: all the new tvOS 14 features

Monday June 22, 2020, during an exceptional WWDC opening conference (in the form of a pre-recorded video), Tim Cook and his collaborators presented the new OS. In particular, we were able to see some new features ofiOS 14, d’iPadOS 14, but alsomacOS Big Suror evenwatchOS 7. Another OS made less noise during the presentation, it istvOS 14. This one, reserved for the Apple TV box, however, does not lack notable additions. Here they are detailed. We will not fail to complete the list as discoveries are made over the coming weeks and over the course of the different beta versions of the OS.

What's new for tvOS 14?

• Home view: this page is accessible from the control control now

• Picture in picture: improved support for this function allowing you to keep a video on the screen while using other applications in parallel

• Audio continuity: Apple TV benefits from the new AirPods sharing function. These automatically connect to the compatible device as soon as the latter is used.
• Sharing audio: the output of the Apple TV can also be shared between several receivers, for example to watch a film together, each with their own pair of AirPods or their own Bluetooth headset
• HomeKit improvements: monitoring the video feed from HomeKit cameras directly from the TV to which the Apple TV is connected and from the tvOS home page. Additionally, if someone rings a HomeKit-connected doorbell, the video feed automatically appears in Picture-in-Picture mode on the TV

• Improved Apple TV sharing: Changing user accounts automatically saves progress in Apple Arcade games. When user 1 returns to their account from user 2's account, they can continue their game where they left off

• Game controllers: new game controllers are supported, the Xbox Elite 2 Controller and the Xbox Adaptive Controller. This is also the case for other new Apple OSes.More details to see here

• AirPlay et 4K: a 4K video shared via AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad, for example, to the Apple TV is now displayed in 4K on the Apple TV 4K
• YouTube et 4K: YouTube videos can now be viewed in 4K on Apple TV 4K
• Improved Game Center: design change and ergonomics improvement to make it easier to find player friends
