iOS 14: release date (beta and final versions)

Like every year, Apple took advantage of the Worldwide Developer Conference (online only this time) to unveil the new edition of its software for smartphones:iOS 14. Its beta version has already been available since the summer. The final version should appear during the month of September or October. Developer beta: already here

In 2019, iOS 13 was released in developer beta on June 4, the opening day of WWDC. The public beta version was released on June 24, 20 days later. In 2018, iOS 12 was released in developer beta on June 3, after the WWDC conference. The public beta version was released on June 25, 22 days later. Finally, in 2017, iOS 11 was released in developer beta on June 5, as soon as the WWDC presentation ended. The public beta version was released on June 27, 22 days later once again.

We were therefore able, according to Apple's history in this area, to count on a release interval between the first developer beta version of iOS 14 and the first public beta version, of around 21 days. This gave us ahypothetical availability of iOS 14 in public beta for July 13.

Eventually,as announced here, the first public beta version of iOS 14 was released on July 9, 2020, 4 days before our prediction.

Release date of the final version of iOS 14

The release of the final version of iOS 14 was announced by Tim Cook for the season offall 2020. However, no specific day has been communicated. On the other hand, we can once again refer to the history of iOS in terms of release date to make a hypothesis on the release of iOS 14 in the final general public version. In 2019, iOS 13 arrived on September 19. In 2018, you had to wait until September 17 to install iOS 12. And in 2017, iOS 11 did not finally appear until September 19.

The final version of iOS 14 should thereforeappear around September 17, 2020, give or take 4 or 5 days. But this hypothesis would hold water if 2020 were a normal year. Which is not the case, because of the coronavirus. Indeed, while normally, iOS is released almost at the same time as the availability on shelves and among buyers of the new iPhones, this year, the new modelsmight not arrive until October. We could therefore be entitled this time to a release of iOS 14 delayed bya few weeks compared to previous years. Thus, we will have to aim for a release towards the end of September, or even the beginning of October, if there is a delay in the iPhone release.

The stable version of iOS 14 will bringmany new features, including emoji search in the keyboard, home screen widgets, and Picture-in-picture mode on iPhone.
