The Mac Studio M1was announced during Apple's keynote last March. It has generated some mixed reviews among users. Indeed,if the price of the version with M1 Ultra chip of the device was fiercely criticized, this is not the only point that displeased Apple fans.
A not very quiet machine
This desktop Mac is considered a technological gem thanks to its incredible performance: it is made up of an Apple M1 chip, Max or Ultra depending on the model, whose processor can contain up to 20 cores. It is also much more powerful than the Mac Mini.Find the detailed technical sheet of Mac Studio.
Despite its undeniable power, some users have noted a very annoying negative point:the emission of a high-pitched noise, even irritating sometimes, when operating the beast. The culprit would already have been found:theintegrated cooling fan.
If the noise generated by the latter can be unpleasant, we were able to judge that it remains less annoying compared to a PC tower equipped with Noctua ULN fans, namely high-end fans designed to muffle the noise. However, compared to the Mac mini, its little brother, the sound difference seems obvious. At rest for example, the Mac Mini is inaudible, while thee Mac Studio is widely heard.
An original solution
A user testified a few weeks ago to our colleagues at Mac4Ever. He says he was very bothered by the noise from his Mac Studio M1 Max. Without letting himself be discouraged, he used a little elbow grease to resolve the problem with the means at hand. And its solution is very simple: it is a matter ofcover the fans of the devicewith duct tape!
@ Mac4Ever
According to this “MacGyver” Apple fan, the speed of the fans would not have changed and the temperature of the machine would only have increased by 5°C. Although this method had the desired effect of significantly reducing the noise generated by the computer, it is still not recommended. In fact, the tape could cause overheating, especially during periods of high heat and/or when the machine is working.
The user is nevertheless upset at having been forced to tinker with such a system on a brand new machine, and above all costing more than2 000 €(more than 9,000 in all options).
Notice to Mac Studio users among you, are you bothered by the noise of your machine? If so, have you put a system in place to regain silence?
