Several owners of MacBook Pro 16″ have noted strange behavior from their machine since their purchase. Indeed, it turns out that certain models suffer from a bug in their speakers. This results in the emission of a clicking sound during different situations: starting playback of a video, stopping then resuming playback, closing a window including a video in playback, among others. Some users also highlighted the malfunction in Apple's Final Cut Pro sound and video editing application.
The sound can be heard in the video below:
But also in this one:
Our colleagues at Apple Insider even report that some of their readers have stated that they have witnessed the same problem on 16″ MacBook Pros visible in Apple Stores. And this was confirmed by half of the 10 Apple Stores contacted by Apple Insider.
This is not the first time that a MacBook has suffered from such a problem. On some 2016 MacBook Pro models with Touch Bar, the same clicking sound may be heard when using a Boot Camp installation with Windows.
The hypothesis that has been put forward for this machine is overheating causing this speaker malfunction. But on the new MacBook Pro 16″, Apple has announced that it is working specifically on better heat dissipation, in particular to avoid too significant a drop in the speed of the Intel Core processor.
Still, for the moment, the problem seems quite unusual. It would be interesting to see what Tim Cook and his engineers would have to say on the subject, but also the Apple Store technicians faced with a machine brought in with such a problem.
Because it must be admitted, at 2,700 euros for the Mac in base price, there is reason to hope for trouble-free operation, or at least support with free repair in due form.
Notice to MacBook Pro 16″ users among you, who is affected by this sound problem?
Updated December 7, 2019
According to our colleagues fromMacRumors, the Californian firm is currently on a war footing regarding this sound problem. She would have sent a document to resellers confirming the existence of such a problem on MacBook Pro 16″. Approved repairers have been instructed not to take charge of the affected machines. The company assures that this is only a software bug. So, a simple update of macOS should be enough to eliminate the problem, an update which should come soon.
So this is good news which should reassure owners of 16″ MacBook Pros affected by the clicking sound problem. There is also no need to go to an Apple Store or a boutique specializing in MacBook repairs, therefore. We will therefore have to patiently wait for the next version of macOS Catalina.
