CPU and graphics card

Let's move on to performance. It must be said thatthree processorsare now available on the 2023 MacBook Pros: the M3, the M3 Pro and the M3 Max. Here, ranked from least to most powerful.

Except that the M3, which also offers the most affordable configuration in terms of price, is only offered on the 14-inch MacBook Pro. You can't get it with a 16-inch diagonal.

The M3 is equipped with an eight-core CPU and a ten-core GPU, with 100 GB of memory bandwidth. The M3 Pro goes up to twelve CPU cores with eighteen graphics card cores, for 150 GB of memory bandwidth. As for the M3 Max, the fastest of the trio, its maximum configuration reaches sixteen CPU cores, forty GPU cores and 400 GB of memory bandwidth.

Unsurprisingly, choosing the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2023 is more expensive than the 14-inch MacBook Pro. And for good reason: the screen is the most expensive part of the entire device, before the processor.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro from 2023 is accessiblefrom 2999 euroswith an M3 Pro chip. Here too, the price changes depending on the configuration: processor, RAM, storage capacity, etc.

Design comparison

The 14 inch is much more “portable”

With its small screen, the 2023 14-inch MacBook Pro is quite lighter than the 16-inch MacBook Pro. This is clearly felt in terms of weight, the latter being limited to 1.55 kg for the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro or 1.61 kg for the 14-inch M3 Pro MacBook Pro and 1.61 kg for the 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 Max.

Of course, the size of the laptop also changes. The dimensions are 1.55 centimeters thick for the 14-inch MacBook Pro, compared to 1.68 centimeters for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. On paper, the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro can each hold up to10 p.m.lit in a row. The only thing is: it turns out that the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips consume much more energy than the M3.

On the 16-inch MacBook Pro, this is not a problem. The device is large enough to accommodate a very large battery, with a large capacity. But on the 14-inch MacBook Pro, it's different. In fact, this model only achieves a maximum of 18 hours of battery life, in M3 Pro or M3 Max configuration.

With the large model, you will only be entitled to a power adapter of140 W.

Two very different uses: which one to choose?

In short, we will have understood: it is mainly the size that changes, between the 16-inch MacBook Pro and the 14-inch MacBook Pro. The small model appears almost like aultraportable, with its wasp waist and much lighter weight. But it clearly won't suit all users, although nomads will appreciate it when traveling.

The operating system, for its part, remains the same. We will still regret that sideperformances, the M3 chip is not available with the 16-inch MacBook Pro. The most disappointed, however, will be able to make up for it with the MacBook Air range. Recently, Apple has offered a laptop from this collection with a 15-inch screen, almost as much as the large MacBook Pro.
