Augmented reality takes a new step. Meta has just unveiled Orion, a revolutionary AR glasses project, whose appearance is a little closer to a traditional frame, even if there are certain constraints to note. This announcement comes a few months after the release of the Apple Vision Pro, for which we do not know the sales figures.

During its Connect event, Mark Zuckerberg's company presented several innovations. The Orion prototype was the star of the evening, but Meta also announced updates to its Ray-Ban glasses and a new Quest 3S headset.

For the first time since Google Glass, GAFAM presents advanced AR glasses, which look like real prescription glasses. However, an external box remains necessary for data processing. Meta plans to improve this technology in the coming years, with the aim ofminiaturize componentsand reduce production costs.

Improvements for Ray-Ban Meta

Ray-Ban connected glassesalso benefit from new features. Their integrated AI assistant gains in functionality. It now offers live translation and pop-up reminders.

On Instagram and Facebook, Meta's AI is also enriched. She will soon be able to edit photos on simple request. Meta is also testing AI-generated content recommendations in the main feeds of its apps.

The Quest 3S democratizes mixed reality

While the Apple Vision Pro is sold for more than 3000 euros, Meta is launching theQuest 3S, a mixed reality headset for €330. It includes the main features of the Quest 3 at a more affordable price. The device additionally uses the same chipSnapdragon XR2 Gen 2than his big brother.

Only the screen and lenses differ from the top model. The definition increases to 773 pixels per inch, compared to 1,218 for the Quest 3. This compromise makes it possible to offer an attractive price without sacrificing performance too much.

Meta asserts its ambitions in augmented and mixed reality. The company is investing heavily in these technologies. Concerning the Orion glasses, they remain a prototype for the moment and their marketing is not planned for several years. The Quest 3S, however, is available from October 15.Concerning Apple AR glasses, Cupertino already seems to be on board.
