Apple has just rolled out version 4.2 of its operating system for headphones and earphones. At the moment we don't really know what this version contains; in fact the developer still does not communicate on this subject. We will therefore probably have to wait for some to discover possible additional features,as was the case with Conversation Boost recently.
This update (build number: 4C165) is, as usual, sent automatically to AirPods. So you don't have the option to install it manually. The best solution to ensure that the software is installed on your pair is to keep it in its charging case without disconnecting it from the associated iPhone.
Which AirPods are affected?
OS 4.2 is available for AirPods Pro, for AirPods Max and for the last two generations of “classic” AirPods includingthe third announced in October. So it seems that the very first edition of the wireless earbuds is not eligible for the update.
To check if your AirPods are up to date, simply go to the Settings app. Then access the menuGeneralthen toInformations. Finally, touch the AirPods so you want to know the version of the program.
The MagSafe charger too
Update 247 (build number: 10M229) of the software that equips the MagSafe charger was put online by Apple at the same time. No particular indications regarding its content there either; so these are probably bug fixes, security fixes etc.
For the installation process, the same thing also: just leave the charger plugged into the mains and connected to an iPhone so that the operating system downloads automatically in the background. If you want to know the version that equips your accessory, the procedure is identical to that described above for AirPods.
Sold at the price of forty-five euros, the MagSafe charger allows you to power your iPhone almost wirelessly. It is compatible with the iPhone 13 range but also the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 or the second generation iPhone SE. This product can also charge multiple models of AirPods if they are Qi compatible.
