Not announced during the keynote, this new product is available from Apple

The official Apple Store website has just put on sale a new cable, USB-A to USB-C, from Belkin and one meter long. The price is set at 34.95 euros, all the same.

Fortunately there aremuch more affordable alternatives on Amazon, with different lengths and even several colors to choose from depending on the manufacturer you choose.

Belkin thread is also available in several shades: either white, black or pink. The price does not change depending on the model, but it increases if you opt for the three meter version. Count 39.95 euros for the latter. Belkin is a fairly well-known accessories brand, one of the few to be promoted directly by Apple with its stores, alongside Mophie or Otterbox in particular.

USB-C charging reserved for a few iPhones

USB-C charging is currently only available on the most recent Apple mobiles. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are entitled to slower speeds than the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max when it comes to data transfer. The power supply, however, is not faster with the most expensive mobiles. You will be able to get 50% charge in thirty minutes, provided you have a dedicated power adapter.

On the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, Apple also offers wireless charging thanks to a glass back that allows conduction. But the latter isrelatively fragile, so it is rather recommended to invest in a protective shell to prevent glass breakage.

USB-C for other devices, too

USB-C technology is, moreover, not just reserved for Apple iPhones. We can thus recharge a good number of Macs with this standard, including the new models which are equipped with third-generation proprietary MagSafe connectivity. The new iPads all have a USB-C port, too. Only the ninth generation still in stores – despite the arrival of the next one – is not yet entitled to it at the moment.

By imposing USB-C on mobile manufacturers, the European Commission wants to reduce the number of waste generated by third-party chargers. Smartphone manufacturers have until the end of 2024 to comply with the legislation in question.
