Connected objects: Matter improves compatibility with iOS 15

La Worldwide Developer Conference 2021-which has just ended- is an opportunity for most developers to learn more about the possibilities offered by iOS 15. Recently, we were able to better understand howthe native virtual controller dedicated to video game studios. But this is not the only sector that should benefit from the update: in fact, smart home accessories are also affected.

Recently renamed Matter,le projet Connected Home over IP(abbreviated until now as CHIP), notably supported by Apple, aims to offer a standard for this type of device, intended for all manufacturers on the market. And during the recent WWDC, the Apple firm took the opportunity to reiterate its commitment to the initiative. Thus, according to the company, the latest edition of its mobile operating system includes everything necessary to pair without worry with the devices that will be equipped with it.

Previous codes still in force

For those who already have products that work with the HomeKit Accessory Protocol, no worries. Indeed, Apple has specified that this technology, already favored by many manufacturers, will continue to be executed without a hitch: very good news to avoid having to go to the checkout again. An additional version of the framework in question is therefore already in the pipeline.

However, only publishers with a developer account with access to Apple's beta program can try it for now. As for the general public, even if they should not really notice the difference with current solutions given that they are mainly back-end, they will of course have to wait a few more weeks. If Cupertino does not change its habits, iOS 15 should be deployed globally by the end of September.

A promising network

Beyond the big names Apple (Siri), Alphabet (Google Assistant) and Amazon (Alexa),Matteralso brings together a plethora of companies investing in the French show. We can notably cite Huawei and its wireless routers, Ikea and its KADRILJ blinds, Samsung and its SmartThings platform or even Texas Instruments, Kroger, Legrand and Schneider Electric. A list that should continue to grow over time.
