We learned last year via the Bloomberg newspaper and its well-informed journalist Mark Gurman, that Apple was working on its own micro-LED screens, to equip future products like the Apple Watch and the iPhone.
According to a new report from the most reliable analyst in the Apple universe, Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will launch several new products in2019 et 2020, which would be equipped with thisnew micro-LED screen technology.
Micro-LED screen technology has several advantages over OLED: lightness, finesse, but also better energy management. However, no manufacturer has yet mastered this technology, and Apple could be the first thanks in particular to large investments made in the field.
According to the analyst, Apple plans to launch anew 31.6 inch screen(6K definition) duringsecond or third trimester. This would use amicro-LED based backlighting.
Still according to this same report from Kuo, at the end of 2020 or beginning of 2021, Apple would also launch anew iPad and MacBookwould use atrue micro-LED display. This is different from the 31.6-inch screen planned for this year, which would only use micro-LED technology for the backlight.
Ming-Chi Kuo claims this micro-LED iPad would have a screen includedbetween 10 and 12 inches, and the micro-LED MacBook would have a screen between15 and 17 inches. Given the screen size and the use of micro-LED technology, it is very likely that this is a MacBook Pro.
The DigiTimes newspaper also published a similar report, and claims that Apple has set its sights on this screen technology because it offers several advantages. Namely awide range of colors, andhigh contrast, awide dynamic rangeand thelocal brightness control.
